Creating a Resume
Creating a seafarer’s resume can take 10–30 minutes. It depends on how many documents you have and whether they are at hand. Below is a list of what you need to include to make your profile look professional and for the employer to immediately see that you are a specialist.
📄 Main Information
👤 Personal
- Photo. This is the first thing crewing looks at. You need a clear photo like on documents. Selfies, beach photos, or cropped group photos won’t work. If you don’t have a file, you can photograph the passport photo and crop the edges.
- Availability Date. The date you are actually ready to depart.
- Primary Position. The position you want to work in.
- Secondary Position. If there are no vacancies for your primary role (e.g., OS if you are AB).
- Salary. The minimum you are willing to work for.
- Pay Period. Usually "monthly." "Daily" is used by offshore workers.
- English Proficiency. Be honest. "Fluent" means you can work in a top crew without Russian-speaking colleagues. "Intermediate" means you understand commands and can communicate. "Poor" means you cannot manage without a translator.
- Citizenship and Address. Where you live and which passport you hold.
📞 Contacts
Indicate everything you are reachable at. Crewing often messages via messenger because it is faster than a call.
- Mobile (required).
- Viber, WhatsApp, Telegram.
- LinkedIn. If available — add the link.
🧬 Biometrics
Height, weight, clothing and shoe sizes. Crewing needs this to order you coveralls and boots.
👥 Next of Kin
This is a requirement of international standards. You need the name, phone, and address of the person to contact in an emergency.
🛳️ Work Experience
Write down everything that is in the Seaman’s Book.
- Vessel. Name, type, flag, IMO.
- Engine. For engineers — make, model, horsepower. If you are not a mechanic, you can hide these fields (see below).
- Dates. Start and end of the contract as in the passport.
📑 Documents
Include here everything that has an expiry date.
- Passports. International passport and seaman’s book.
- Visas. Schengen, US, and any others.
- STCW Certificates. Basic Safety Training, Lifeboats, Medical, Security, etc.
- CoC / Endorsements.
➕ Add-ons
🔖 Cover Letter
If there was a long gap in your career or you are transitioning from offshore to a tanker — write about it here. This will put the manager’s mind at ease.
🛠️ Hide Engine Fields
If you are a deck officer or cook, engine data is not required — simply disable them in the section settings.
