Familiarising himself with the details of the vessel’s construction, stability data, manoeuvrability, safety and other equipment;As Officer of the Watch (OOW) being primarily responsible at all times for the safe navigation of the ship with UNRESTRICTED ACCESS TO ALL COMMUNICATION, NAVIGATION AND MANOEUVRING EQUIPMENT and for complying with the Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea;Watchkeeping in port as instructed by the Master and Chief Officer.Evaluating all distress, safety, navigation and weather messages;Training of the crew as requested by a superior;Implementing, maintaining and controlling of the safety management system and security system on deck;Administration of medicine and medical equipment in co-operation with the Medical officer (inventory, disposal of expired medicine, requisition of medicine prior to expiration dates);Inspection and maintenance of fire fighting, lifesaving and oil spill equipment in accordance with the maintenance system and appropriate regulations in co-operation with the Safety officer;Care and maintenance of vessel's visual and electrics signalling equipment, including all flags, halyards, shapes, lights, distress signals, flares and Signalling Apparatus;Reporting to the Master or Safety officer any lack or deficiencies related to fire fighting, lifesaving and oil spill equipment;Any other duties as instructed by the Master or the Chief Officer.
